Radicant Patterns in Israeli Art
Special issue of Arts, volume 8, no. 4 (December 2019)

Guest editor: Dr. Hava Aldouby

This special issue of Arts rests on the proposition that Israeli art presents a unique inflection of the global condition of mobility, profoundly affecting contemporary art. Drawing on the concepts of migratory aesthetics (Bal 2007) and “radicantity” (Bourriaud 2010), this issue seeks international contributions that approach Israeli art through its implication in migratory circuits, both contemporary and historical. Negotiations of belonging and un-belonging, migration and homecoming, ground, place, and borders, are at the focus of attention. Contributions are not limited to works produced by artists currently residing in Israel, and may address inter-generational reverberations of the radicant condition; Israeli artists’ hubs worldwide; and/or negotiations of Israeli-ness in various contexts. International proposals with other focal interests within this frame of inquiry are welcome.
