On the Brink of Change: Time, temporality and the natural world in contemporary creative practice

One day symposium at The National Centre for Craft & Design in Sleaford, Lincolnshire Saturday 25th June 2011.

Complimenting ‘About Time’, a solo exhibition of work by artist Claire Morgan, this session brings together leading fine artists, makers, designers, curators and academics who explore the concept of time, the notion of the ephemeral, or life and death within their work. It also includes include those who comment on pending social, political, but more specifically, environmental change.

Speakers:

Claire Morgan:
Prominent London based sculptor. The conference compliments the theme of her solo show, ‘About Time’ at The National Centre for Craft & Design.

Linda Florence:
Designer, installation artist, visiting professor at Weißensee Kunsthochschule, Berlin, and associate lecturer at Central Saint Martins, London.

Mary Schoeser:
Internationally renowned textiles expert, author and senior research fellow at Central St. Martin’s, London.

Raisin and Willow:
An artist duo working across disciplines who recently staged ‘Making Time’, a garden created over a period of a year designed as a place in which to respond to change, growth and decay; to follow the seasons; to mark and be marked by the passing of time.

Alan Armstrong:
Performance artist and co-director of the Lincoln Art Programme.

Andrew Langford:
Award winning photographer and reader in Fine Art and Design, University of Northampton.

Craig Ashley:
Producer (Visual Arts) at mac birmingham, and curator of These Valued Landscapes.

Jo Rolfe:
Textile artist, teacher and PhD candidate, researching the rejuvenation of traditional rural crafts.

Stacy Brafield:
Recently graduated installation artist and embroiderer, and winner of the 2010 Great Northern Graduate prize at the Great Northern Contemporary Craft fair.
