EPCAF-DFK Panel at Festival d'Histoire de l'art (Fontainebleau, 29-31 May 15)

Fontainebleau, France, 29.–31.05.2015
Eingabeschluss : 10.11.2014

The European Post-War and Contemporary Forum (EPCAF), in association with the Deutsches Forum für Kunstgeschichte (DFK, Paris), is looking to assemble a panel to submit for the 2015 Festival de l'histoire de l'art. We are calling for proposals for 20 minute papers that fit next year's theme "Matière de l'oeuvre", in the framework of Europe after 1945 (the shared interest of EPCAF and DFK's annual theme).
As the announcement for the conference outlines, the panel should consider the relationship between materiality and the work created. "What is the material of a work? Is it nothing but the medium? The relations to material also imply the imagination and language. Combination or invention of material, play with authenticity and fakery, the poor and the precious, reuse and recycling: material is not only used, but transformed by human gesture, of which the artistic gesture is a particular category that one can attempt to define. How and why do artists choose a material? We interrogate also the relationship of each to the material of the work."
Special consideration will be given to proposals considering the economic aspects of artistic materials.

The Festival will take place in Fontainebleau May 29 -31, 2015. Presentations can be about the art of any geographic region encompassed by, or responding to, Europe, but they must be given in French.
The final due dates for proposals to the Festival are Nov. 16, therefore EPCAF needs to receive proposals a week in advance. Please submit a short proposal (about 300 words, with brief biographical information), in French, to scrasdt-forum.org by Nov. 10.
