The success and the enthusiastic reception by the public of the 2013
"Lunedì dell'arte" program of Monday art meetings devoted to
photography, and the great interest they have aroused in Turin, have
given rise to a new series of encounters. Taking up the thread from last
year, it is due to start on May 5 at 9p.m.

This second series will include meetings with curators of art museums
and international photography festivals: Nili Goren, curator of the
Department of Photography at the Tel Aviv Museum, Paul di Felice,
co-director of the European Month of Photography in Luxembourg, and
Walter Moser, chief curator of Photography at the Albertina Museum in
Vienna. Its aim is to bring the public up to date on the latest
exhibition programs, on the activities of the departments of photography
and on the various strategies for the circulation of contemporary
photographs among institutions in national capitals, both inside and
outside of Europe.

"This opening up to the world outside of Italy is part of the policy of
internationalization which has been pursued for some years now by the
Fondazione De Fornaris, as the various events in New York in 2011 and
2012 clearly show," says the president, Piergiorgio Re.
"The aim of the conferences is to start a reflection on the
effectiveness of methods of circulation and promotion of photography in
this age of advanced technology, with the Internet and social media",
says the curator Antonella Russo. "The speakers will tell the public
about the latest work of the departments of photography in these
important institutions, as well as about the various methods they use to
promote their collections and photographic culture in general."


"Photography. Vision and Mission II" consists of three meetings with
international photography curators . They will be presented by Antonella
Russo and introduced by Riccardo Passoni, the deputy director of GAM.

On Monday, May 5 at 9 p.m., Nili Goren will hold a conference entitled
"Contemporary Israeli Photography: from Landscape to Land-escape", an
overview of Israeli photography today, with a reflection on the role of
research and dissemination that the museum plays in representing modern
and contemporary trends in national photography, within the context of
the history of photography.

On Monday, May 19 at 6 p.m., Paul di Felice, professor of Art History at
the University of Luxembourg, co-director of the European Month of
Photography and co-editor of Café Crème Édition, specializing in art
books and contemporary photography, will speak about "Thirty Years of
International Contemporary Photography in Luxembourg. From "Café Crème
Magazine" to the European Month of Photography. "

Monday, May 26, 6 p.m., Walter Moser, chief curator of Photography at
the Albertina Museum in Vienna, will present "To See More More Closely:
Insights into the Photographic Collection at the Albertina" a
wide-ranging reflection on the photography collection of the Albertina,
one of the most prestigious museums in Europe.

The speakers:
Nili Goren (Jerusalem, 1965) graduated in Art History from Tel Aviv
University and taught Theory of Art and Photography at the Bezalel
Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, before becoming curator of
Photography at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art (TAMA) in 1999. She has
curated more than thirty exhibitions of photography, including: " Soviet
Photography "(1996); "Gunther Foerg" (2003); "Vardi Kahana: One Family
"(2007); "Tel Aviv Time" (2009); "David LaChapelle: Postmodern Pop
Photography" (2010); "Uri Nir: Accelerator" (2011); "Avi Ganor: Reality
Trauma" (2011); "Roger Ballen: Documentary Fiction" (2012); "David
Claerbout: The Time that Remains" (2012); "Hiraki Sawa: Did I?", 2011
(2013); "Jeff Wall: Visibility "(2013-14);

Paul di Felice (Differdange, Luxembourg, 1953) gained a PhD in Visual
Arts and is Senior Lecturer in Art History and Pedagogy at the
University of Luxembourg. Specialized in the theory of contemporary
photography, he has held workshops at the Casino Luxembourg – Forum
d'Art Contemporain, in collaboration with the University since 1998. He
is also a founding member of the online magazine "lacritique.org" and a
member of the Association Internationale des Critiques d'Art in
Luxembourg. A curator, he is the co-director of the European Month of
Photography (www.emoplux.lu), which was launched in 2005 by the
association directors of photography of seven European capitals (Berlin,
Bratislava, Budapest, Ljubljana, Luxembourg, Paris, and Vienna). Since
1984 he has been the co-director of the publishing house Café Crème
Édition.

Walter Moser (Wels, 1979) graduated in History of Art from the
University of Vienna, after also attending courses at Roma Tre
University. He worked as a researcher and later as an assistant curator
at the Wien Museum, then as a curator in the photographic collection of
the Film Museum in Vienna. Since 2005 Walter Moser has been working at
the Albertina Museum in Vienna, where he has been curator of photography
since 2011. Since 2012 he has curated "Joel Sternfeld " (2012), "Body as
Protest " (2012), "Lewis Baltz" (2013) and, more recently, "Blow-Up –
Antonioni's Film Classic and Photography" (2014). The author of numerous
essays, he is now completing "Film Stills by Warren Lynch for Erich von
Stroheim's Greed, a Media–theoretical Analysis of Photography and Film",
the thesis for his doctorate.

Antonella Russo, is a historian and curator of photography who studied
under Beaumont Newhall, holds a Master's Degree in Art/Photography from
the University of New Mexico and an M.Phil. in the History of Modern Art
from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She has
lectured at the Museum of Modern Art and at the Metropolitan Museum of
Art in New York, and she has directed the Industria-Superstudio training
school in Milan and taught History and Techniques of Photography at the
University of Salento. A curator of photography since the early 1990s,
she directed many exhibitions, including: "Mario Giacomelli" (1992),
Castello di Rivoli-Museo d'Arte Contemporanea, Villa Arson, Nice;" An
Eye for the City. Italian Photography and the Image of the Contemporary
City" (2001-2004), University of New Mexico Art Museum, Albuquerque,
New Mexico; "Vera fotografia italiana "(2004), Spazio Ersel, Turin;
"Viewpoints: Italy in Black and White" (2005), the Estorick Collection,
London. She has written countless essays on the theory of photography
and recently published "Storia culturale della fotografia italiana",
Einaudi, 2011 and "Fascismo in mostra", Editori Riuniti, 1999.
