The UK Heritage Consortium (http://www.heritageconsortium.ac.uk/) invites high-quality proposals for up to 12 AHRC-supported PhD studentships tenable for three years from 1 October 2016. Applications must be submitted to the Consortium by 15 February 2016. Successful candidates are admitted to the member university that has the most appropriate supervisory expertise, with specialist co-supervision provided by another consortium partner. All students undertake common cohort-based training in Heritage Research, and have access to facilities and research support at the other Consortium members and their network of heritage organisations.

If you are interested in a PhD on Heritage Management, Archives, Museum & Gallery Studies with Dr Susan Ashley and Dr Perla Innocenti at University of Northumbria in Newcastle, contact us at susan.ashleynorthumbria.ac.uk and perla.innocentinorthumbria.ac.uk. Dr Ashley (https://www.northumbria.ac.uk/about-us/our-staff/a/susan-ashley/) is a cultural studies scholar interested in the ‘democratisation’ of culture and heritage institutions, especially in relation to access and expression by minority groups. Dr Innocenti (https://www.northumbria.ac.uk/about-us/our-staff/i/perla-innocenti/) is a digital cultural heritage scholar interested in exploring how cultural heritage can contribute to social inclusion and what models and tools can be used to reach out and engage with wider audiences.

The Studentships are open to Home applicants (full award) or EU applicants (fees only award) with a good undergraduate degree, together with a Master’s qualification attained or on schedule to be completed, and/or equivalent professional experience. Studentships can be held either full-time or part-time. Applicants must ensure they meet the AHRC/RCUK eligibility criteria at http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/RCUK-prod/assets/documents/documents/TermsConditionsTrainingGrants.pdf .
