The Faculty of Arts & Philosophy invites applications for the full-time
position of professor in the rank of Lecturer (Tenure Track system) or
Senior Lecturer in the Department of Art, music and theatre sciences,
taking effect on October 1, 2011. Responsibilities will include academic
teaching, research and service in the field of Modern and Contemporary
Visual Art (20th and 21st Centuries).

Candidate's Profile
- candidates are required to hold a doctor's degree, with a doctoral
thesis in the field of Art History (for Belgian applicants) or with a
doctoral thesis relevant to the field of Modern and Contemporary
Visual Art (20th and 21st Centuries) (for non-Belgian applicants);
- candidates are required to have at least two years of postdoctoral
experience on October 1, 2011;
- candidates are required to have research experience in the field of
Modern and Contemporary Visual Art (20th and 21st Centuries), as is
evident from contributions to international conferences and
publications in books and/or peer-reviewed journals;
- an international 'profile' gained, for instance, through
participation in research programmes at institutions other than one's
own, will be considered an asset;
- candidates are required to possess the necessary didactic,
organizational and communicative skills for teaching in an academic
context;
- candidates are required to show their willingness to learn Dutch
(insofar as they do not speak this language on the day of application)

Non-Dutch-speaking candidates can also apply. The official language at
Ghent University is Dutch.

Candidates are required to submit:
- an outline (max. 1500 words) explaining their views on research,
teaching and service in relation to this vacancy;
- the required transcripts (copies of degrees).

Selection procedure:
1. candidates will be short-listed on the basis of their curriculum
vitae, bibliography, and the outline;
2. short-listed applicants will be invited for an interview and
required to present a micro-class, on the basis of which the final
selection will be made.

A full-time position in the rank of Lecturer is a tenure-track
appointment for a period of five years, at the end of which a tenure
decision will be taken, depending on an overall evaluation.

A full-time position in the rank of Senior Lecturer is in principle a
tenured appointment. In the case of a first appointment as professor
("ZAP" or "Zelfstandig Academisch Personeel"), in the rank of Lecturer
or Senior Lecturer, however, the Board of Governors of Ghent University
reserves the right to grant a temporary, tenure-track appointment for a
maximum period of three years, at the end of which a tenure decision
will be taken, depending on an overall evaluation.
